Thomas Edison, the famous inventor was building a complex generator system for General Electric. He encountered a problem he couldn’t solve, and was forced to ask his rival, Nikolai Tesla, for help. Tesla promptly responded and after examining Edison’s system, using a piece of chalk he placed an X on one of the components. “Here”, he said “this is the defect”. Afterwards Tesla sent Edison a bill for $20,000. Stunned, Edison requested an itemized account for his service. The invoice Tesla sent to Edison listed two items: Chalk $1.00, Knowing where to put the X $19,999. Edison gladly paid the bill!
